skippenh Meadow Rock is a brilliant album, and this new track from Joe builds upon the classic, melodic template set by that record. It takes my head right back to the wonderful soundscapes of the 70's I enjoyed so much, country flavored rock reverberating around the canyons, yet it's still utterly contemporary - music for now, drenched in the best of pastimes. Love it. Favorite track: Silk Robe, Garden Flowers.

about

A fleeting, dreamlike experience in a garden, wandering in the morning after a fresh rain, the smell of wet flagstones, this is the setting for Silk Robe, Garden Flowers, a song about inevitable change, loss, and a relationship grown estranged.

This is a co-write between myself and Alana Amram, daughter of legendary composer David Amram. We collaborated previously on the song Lost Along The Way, which appears on the Meadow Rock album.  The instrumental performances and arrangement here are in part an homage to the Flying Burrito Brother’s Rick Roberts era and "blue" album. Produced, engineered, and mixed at my studio, Mountain Sounds Recorders in Los Angeles, CA.

Special thanks to Will Scott for his support, friendship, and for chasing down the right rhythm feel for this song via his fantastic drumming. Thanks also to Connor Catfish Gallaher for his fantastic pedal steel performance.

Thanks to you for listening, and for supporting independent artists like us.
All the very best,
-Joe

lyrics

LYRICS
While the nightbird’s callin’
a voice that’s high but fallen
I’m awake as you lay sleepin’
wonderin’ what thoughts you’re keepin’
footsteps across the flagstones
I follow as the morning light shone
all around the rain is drying’
you’re lost and crying’ like a child

When you got everything that you wanted,
did you lose some of what you had?
some of the things that you longed for,
are they the things that are making you sad?
something you thought that you had, is gone..

Take my hand and lead me somewhere
take me from this place I don’t care
a road paved with good intention
we travelled in the wrong direction
silk robe and garden flowers
minutes past that felt like hours
standin’ in that garden known’
love’s turned to brambles, growin’ wild
na na na na na nah
na na na na na nah

When you got everything that you wanted,
did you lose some of what you had?
now some of the things that you longed for,
are they the things that are making you sad?
something you thought that you had, is gone..

When you got everything that you wanted,
did you lose some of what you had?
now some of the things that you longed for,
are they the things that are making you sad?
something you thought that you had, is gone..
